London Independents and London Ebony both ask for your own website before they give you a free listing.
We would build the site and keep the listings that earn their fee. A listing puts you in front of an audience that already exists. A site gives you pages and an enquiry route that no directory controls. It has limits too: your host, your payment and email tools, and the law each set rules.
Directories and classifieds bring reach a new site lacks for months
Our marketing FAQ advises a 12-month minimum for a serious search strategy, with movement possible at six months. No one can guarantee a ranking. A new site will not reach that audience soon. While the site is young, a listing is the quicker way to reach people who are already searching. We cannot say how many enquiries it will send.
Do not count on a listing’s link to help your own rankings. Google’s guidance on qualifying outbound links says it will generally not follow a link with the nofollow attribute.
Some free listings need your own site first
London Independents’ free independent listing requires your own website. It covers London-based female independents and sets a minimum hourly rate. It also sets out a route for applicants outside London whose website shows London booking information or prices. It wants the directory’s banner on your homepage. It accepts a links-page banner only when your homepage has no other banners. The free profile sits on page two of the gallery or later.
London Ebony’s free listing is for ebony and mixed-race escorts based in London. Applicants elsewhere need London prices and booking information on their site. Its terms also require your own website and a homepage banner.
The directory’s banner takes space on the page you are trying to own. Decide whether the listing justifies it.
A directory sets the terms of your listing
Lulu Black’s pricing page shows what a directory can set: term length, pausing, images and renewal. Lulu Black bills in three-month blocks and offers no pause. Hiding your profile does not extend the paid end date. Image changes wait in an approval queue that takes days. A plan you do not renew on time goes offline.
Ask any directory whether you can pause, change locations or keep a listing between tours.
Your team size changes your options too. Tryst’s advertising policy prohibits agency listings, and Slixa’s joining conditions exclude agencies. If you plan to run an agency or work through one, check which listings would still accept you.
You choose your pages, your booking form and your host
Pages you own stay up when a directory changes its rules. A booking form on your own domain keeps working when a messaging app bans you, and a sign-up form on the same domain builds a mailing list you own. Your email tool’s terms still apply, as the table below shows.
A site on open-source code that you own can move hosts whenever you want. Our development page explains how we build that way.
A booking form does not suit every client, and the site needs someone to maintain it. Our secure client communication post covers the limits and how to build the form.
Outside rules still apply to your own site
A host, a payment provider and an email tool each publish terms, and each can enforce them.
| Where it applies | What the rules say | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Site builder | Squarespace’s policy says not to publish sexually explicit or obscene material (section 6.3) and does not name escort services. Squarespace may remove content or suspend a site at any time, for any reason, unless the law prohibits it. Squarespace last updated the policy on 24 February 2020. | Squarespace acceptable use policy |
| Card payments through Wix: US example | Wix Payments’ US-only list names escort agencies and sexually related services. Wix may suspend the account and withhold funds. Outside the US, Wix directs readers to Adyen and Stripe’s provider lists. Check the rules that apply to your country and account. | Wix Payments prohibited products |
| Mailing list | Mailchimp’s policy lists escort services under prohibited content and says it may not allow businesses that offer them. It may suspend or terminate the account. | Mailchimp acceptable use policy |
| Paid ads | Google’s Ads policy bars ads that promote paid in-person companionship or sexual acts. Meta’s ad standard bars ads that help arrange paid sexual services between adults. | Google Ads policy, Meta ad standard |
Terms change, so read the current text before you build on any of them.
Our marketing post sets out the wording for more email tools and ad platforms. It also explains the Online Safety Act age-assurance rule, with links to Ofcom’s guidance.
Enquiries can reveal sensitive information. The ICO lists data concerning a person’s sex life as special category data. To process it, you must identify an Article 9 condition. The ICO marks both pages as under review. Whether a given enquiry counts is a legal question, so take advice. Collect only what you need.
We would work in this order
- Choose one or two listings that fit your city and profile. Our directories comparison covers eligibility, terms and listing fees.
- Build one page you own for every service and location your listings cover.
- Give each listing its own contact route or a tagged link to your site. Log each enquiry and booking against the listing that sent it. Keep only the personal details you need, and review the log monthly.
Our independent escort website page explains the build options. Our management page explains hosting and maintenance. See our marketing page for search marketing prices, and ask us for a website quotation.
Not sure which listings to keep, or whether a site makes sense at your stage? Ask us and we will tell you straight.
