In link building, the list is the campaign. Pick the right fifty sites and the outreach almost writes itself. Pick the wrong ones and no amount of charm will save it. Link prospecting is the work of building that list, and in the adult sector it is where campaigns are won or quietly wasted.
Where adult-sector links actually live
Forget the fantasy list of national newspapers. The publications that link to sites in this niche, and there are more than you would think, cluster in predictable places:
- Lifestyle and city press. Nightlife guides, city magazines, luxury and travel titles. They cover dating, going out and the economics of the industry, and they link to sources.
- Dating and relationship publications. Adjacent enough to be relevant, mainstream enough to carry weight.
- Adult-friendly blogs and industry sites. Smaller, but relevant, and relevance is half the value of a link.
- Niche directories. Mostly nofollow, mostly traffic plays rather than ranking plays. Worth having for the referrals, never the backbone of a profile.

The checks we run on every prospect
This is the vetting we apply for clients and for our own sites, in order:
- What does the site rank for? The fastest PBN detector there is. A “lifestyle magazine” ranking for casino terms and crypto recovery services is not a magazine.
- Real traffic, trending level or up. A link from a site nobody visits is a signature on a petition nobody reads.
- Relevance to your niche or an adjacent one. Lifestyle, dating, travel, city content all count. A plumbing blog does not, whatever its authority score says.
- Spam score and profile sanity. High spam score, or an outbound-link pattern that reads like a link farm, ends the conversation.
- Editorial standards. Real bylines, real images, writing a human took care over. Sites that publish anything will link to anyone, and Google knows it.
The full version of this vetting, with the metrics and thresholds, is in our link quality checklist.
Filling the list
Two sources do most of the work. A backlink gap analysis shows you every site already linking to competitors like you, which is proof they will entertain the niche. And topic searches in a backlink tool (who links to articles about companionship, luxury dating, the business of the industry) surface the publications covering your world right now.

The outreach reality
Editors do not owe you a link, and in this sector some will decline on principle. The ones who say yes do it because you offered something their readers want: data, a story, a genuinely expert take on a subject they were covering anyway. That is why we treat outreach as PR rather than begging, and why the links that result are the ones that move rankings.
Prospecting is slow, careful work, which is exactly why most agencies skip it and buy packages instead. We do not. If you want a link profile built from a list worth building, talk to us.
